Launching Your Book: Building a Book Launch Team

The journey from an idea to a finished book is undoubtedly a challenging one. However, once you've typed that final word and sealed the last edit, a new journey begins: launching your book.

In the digital age, where there are countless books available with just a click, how do you ensure that your book stands out? One of the most effective strategies involves building a book-launching team. Let's delve into the step-by-step process of launching a book, with a deep dive into the pivotal role a book launching team plays.

Step 1: Finalizing Your Book

Before you think about the launch, ensure that your manuscript is edited, proofread, and formatted appropriately. Design or commission a compelling cover, write a persuasive book description and determine your book’s price point.

Step 2: Setting Up Pre-orders on Amazon

Amazon's pre-order facility allows authors to list their books up to 90 days before the actual release. This provides ample time to generate buzz and garner initial sales.

  1. Log in to your KDP account.

  2. Go to your Bookshelf.

  3. Click "+ Create a new Kindle eBook."

  4. Fill in your book details, upload your manuscript, and set the release date.

  5. In the "Pre-order" section, select "Make my Kindle eBook available for pre-order."

Step 3: Building Your Book Launching Team

A book launching team comprises individuals who support your book’s release. This group is typically made up of friends, family, colleagues, and other connections. Their primary goal is to create buzz, spread the word, and provide early reviews.

Why is a Book Launching Team Crucial?

  • Pre-release Buzz: When many people talk about an upcoming book, it piques interest and generates anticipation.

  • Initial Reviews: These are vital for a book's success on platforms like Amazon. A solid base of positive reviews can significantly impact sales and ranking.

  • Word-of-Mouth: Recommendations from real people are still one of the most influential marketing tools.

How to Build Your Team:

  1. Make a List: Start by listing everyone you think would be interested in supporting your launch. Don't limit yourself; cast a wide net. The minimum we require here in Atticus Publishing is at least 50 people to get a significant impact.

  2. Reach Out Personally: A personal touch goes a long way. Send individual emails or messages, explaining your project and why you'd value their support.

  3. Provide Clear Instructions: Ensure your team knows exactly what you expect from them and when. You can put the link to your book's Amazon pre-order page, and also a preferred time when they should leave a review.

  4. While you're at it, you can also slowly build an email list from people outside your circle. Here's a blog to elaborate: Building an Author Email List: A Comprehensive Guide

Step 4: Contacting Your Book Launching Team

  1. Upon Listing on Pre-order: Once your book is available for pre-order on Amazon, notify your team. Encourage them to pre-order and spread the word.

  2. 3 Days Before Going Live: Send a reminder to your team about the upcoming launch. This is a good time to reiterate how important their support is. If you have any promotional materials, like shareable images or snippets, include them.

  3. 1 Month After Going Live: By this time, hopefully, many from your team would've read your book. Send a courteous reminder asking them to leave a review on Amazon. Remember, reviews significantly influence potential readers.

Step 5: Showing Appreciation

Always express gratitude. Consider giving your team members a free copy of the book, exclusive content, or even just heartfelt thanks. They're not just helping to launch a book; they're launching your dream.
